What is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)?
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by Coronavirus. It was first identified in Wuhan, China in December of 2019 and has now spread throughout the world including Alaska.

How does COVID-19 spread?
COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person. When a person with COVID-19 coughs or sneezes, they produce respiratory droplets that may land in the mouths and noses of people nearby. These respiratory droplets may also land on objects and surfaces. When another person touches the object or surface and then touches their mouth, nose, or eyes, they may be infected with the virus.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

How can I protect myself and others?
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if you can't wash your hands.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- For everyone over the age of 2, wear a mask when out in public.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or the inside of your elbow.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, stay home.
